The Shirtdress

Starting up the new week with a post featuring this little number- a Joe Fresh shirtdress also at JCP.
It was literally love at first sight, with what look's like a mixture of camouflage and floral prints.
It's the perfect combination of comfort and style (and affordability, of course). It's got pockets, I don't know about you guys but I love the little unexpectedness of dresses with pockets: perfect for my Iphone that I keep dropping and cracking.
(I have been discovering lots of cool pieces at JCP, quite frankly, I love the new JCP).

There was a battle of purses. I debated between highlighting the green or highlighting the mustard elements in this dress. But instead of sticking with one color, I thought "why not do both?!"  By simply changing purses I accomplished . I styled the dress both ways. No Jacket means warm day! Yay! Guess which purse I ended up wearing out.

Shop your Closet: Casual Jeans and Blazer

Confession: I love to shop a lot! Most of us do.
Fact: Most of the time we don't have to- even in those I don't have anything to wear moments.
True or False: We already own the essentials for a great outfit (true, look in your closet, if you already shop so much, umm yes, you do).
    Trick: Timeouts.
"I give myself shopping time outs and get a challenge to create new outfits with what's already in my closet. Half the time, I still have the tags on some of my clothes"
Trends are wonderful and I like to stay on top of trends but no one needs a new dress every time they have coffee with the girls or go see a movie. Come on! So I shop my closet. In the process, I rediscover my favorite pieces.
  • This is more effective with an organized closet. It gives you a better view of whats in it.
  • Go for the basics and the classics- mix them up.
  • For example: The blazer- always a classic. A great pair of Jeans- almost everyone owns a pair. Add your personality with your favorite accessories and a great pair of heels, I'm sure you can't go wrong!
     So here's your challenge!

Je T'aime: Black N White

Here is something a little different than what I usually wear.
A fun skirt with "bold" words in every sense of the word (Je t'aime means I love you); which I got for a steal from F21.
When trying out a new trend, I start out with a very affordable piece (a cheapy, if I may), just in case it doesn't work out.  Forever 21 is my go -to for that.
This fall, the black and white trend is still in. Play with some black and white in different textures, or colors grey and white. Just make it your own and have fun with it.

Animal Instinct: Leopard & Leather

Grudgingly, I am beginning to acknowledge that fall is here; but since it's still warm I started incorporating fall trends into my outfits by wearing simple layers like this.
For me, wearing leopard prints can border on tacky when overdone, so I try to keep them as simple and uncluttered as possible. Since leopard prints are great statement pieces, when styling an outfit, I would either use a piece as the main focus of an outfit, or as an accent to an outfit.  Never both.
Here, I kept my jewelery to a minimum and threw on a light  leather vest to complete the look.

Rogue Revival

Finally, got my head out of the sands to blog! It's been a busy couple of weeks but I'll spare you the boring details.

This outfit features the leather trend that exploded last year, and most of us have come to love. Good news-the trend is here to stay. The new found versatility of leather with it's different silhouettes and colors, is what I like the most about the trend. It's no longer limited to its old tight, restrictive forms but now showcases an array of flattering pieces that fits almost any style. Almost any kind of clothing comes in leather from dresses to coats, you name it.

I added structure to the leather-like feminine shaped skirt with a structured zipper Jacket that I discovered last fall (which i simply love). Haven't gotten the chance to wear it in forever, so I revived them from the depths of my closet in the spirits of fall.

The shoes, where do I start? I tried and tried to resist the urge to get them because I kept seeing them everywhere but I gave in. I simply adore these heels.
The tote from the Phillip Lim forTarget collection is perfection. I know I will get a lot of wear out of this. What did you get?

Jumpsuit Mania

I make no secrets about it, I absolutely love Jumpsuits (and rompers)!

I honestly can't understand why it ever went out of style until it's revival a few years back. Although I love fashion and all it's nuances, I would admit I can be quite lazy. You know, those days when you just want a quick outfit, with no fuss, yet look well put together. Best go-to for me are jumpsuits and rompers.
During the summer months, there were numerous variations from long flowy lengths, to floral patterns and structured silhouettes. Also a variation of this trend, the overalls (dungarees) with a bib-style top, became quite popular. It's fall and as it gets colder, I may opt for structured jumpsuits as opposed to rompers- so don't hang up your jumpsuits quite yet. However, there are rompers that can be worn all year round with some layering. Hope I get the chance to show you how soon!

Jumpsuits should be a staple outfit in any closet. Nasty gal often has so many choices. Here are some jumpsuits I'm currently coveting and should get your creative (or lazy) side going. Just have fun with it!

Final Days of Summer

September is here,  so are the last days of summer and a hint of melancholy.
But wait! There are Perks, such as Fashion Week which started today, amazing end of season sales, new season trends and the gorgeous colors of autumn.
          * Submitted to IFB's Blazer of Glory*

Speaking of Perks- I absolutely love the leather studded pumps  and matching clutch I'm wearing in this post. I got them a while back. But thanks to the end of summer, you can snag a pair for next to nothing. You will definitely find use for these stunners during the fall (if you are daring) and next Spring. Shades of white have already been spotted on the runways of Fashion Week and it's only day one.
